Chastleton House is one of the Cotswolds’ most atmospheric historic houses. The Jacobean building survived with unusually little alteration, so its rooms, staircases and service spaces still read as a lived-in house rather than a polished museum set. Outside, the walled garden, orchard and old churchyard make the visit feel unhurried and rooted in the village.
Allow around two hours, including time to explore the garden and lanes around Chastleton. It works particularly well as a quieter counterpoint to busier stops around Moreton-in-Marsh, and it is a good rainy-day choice when the house is open. Floors are uneven in places and opening is seasonal, so check access details and book ahead at peak times.
