FOOD & DRINK
Good food is part of the reason to come to the Cotswolds. We’re collecting the pubs, restaurants, producers and easy local stops we would actually send friends to — with enough context to tell you when they’re worth building a day around.
HOW WE CHOOSE
We care about the things that change a day out: whether a pub is genuinely worth driving for, whether somewhere works with children or dogs, whether the food justifies the price, and whether there is something better five minutes away. The collection will grow, but we would rather be selective than fill the page with places we cannot confidently recommend.
Proper pub lunches, fireside pints, Sunday roasts and inns that make as much sense for dinner as they do for an overnight stay.
The smart restaurants, hotel dining rooms and polished town-centre options that are worth planning and booking rather than leaving to chance.
Local producers, taprooms, bakeries and lower-key stops that can turn a walk, shopping trip or drive between villages into something better.
PLACES WE'D SEND FRIENDS
This is deliberately not exhaustive. These are existing Cotswold Stays picks with proper Place pages; more will be added as we review them.
Polished Promenade dining and drinks when you want Cheltenham to feel like a proper night out.
A traditional Bourton option when you want pub atmosphere away from the busiest stretch of river.
A historic Market Place inn that works for lunch, dinner or a drink when you are exploring Cirencester on foot.
A characterful Chipping Campden pub for a proper meal after the High Street, Hidcote or a long walk.
A smarter Cirencester option for cocktails, dinner and an occasion that calls for something more polished than a pub lunch.
Not a hidden gem, but a useful cluster of casual options when a group needs choice and nobody wants to overcomplicate dinner.
START WITH A PLACE
Our Destination guides connect the food picks with the rest of the day — parking, walks, attractions and whether somewhere makes sense as a base.
Find somewhere to stay, then use the guides to fill the gaps between breakfast and the last drink of the evening.
