A little more time
Dyrham Park combines a baroque house, formal garden and broad deer park in one of the best viewpoints on the western edge of the Cotswolds. The approach through the park is part of the experience: as the house comes into view, the land opens towards Bath and the Severn plain.
Allow at least half a day. The house and garden reward a slower visit, while the parkland walks make the site useful for dogs and families. The walk from the car park is uphill; a shuttle may run on busier days. Tickets, house opening and seasonal events change, so check the National Trust page before travelling.
