Great Witcombe Roman Villa is a compact, rewarding stop for anyone interested in the Roman Cotswolds. The surviving walls, mosaic floors and bath-house rooms show the scale and comfort of a villa estate that once looked across the valley. Interpretation is limited, which makes the visit feel more like reading the landscape than walking through a formal museum.
It is best combined with a wider day around the Cotswold escarpment, perhaps adding Cooper’s Hill or the villages south of Cheltenham. Wear sturdy shoes: the approach is uneven and can be muddy after rain. The site is free and open access, but there are no toilets, café or on-site parking, so arrive prepared.
