Painswick Beacon
Opening hours
Open access, generally from dawn to dusk. Check local access, conditions and any seasonal restrictions before travelling.
Location: Painswick Beacon, Cotswolds, UK
A little more time
Painswick Beacon is an open hilltop viewpoint on the Cotswold Way, with broad views across the Severn Vale and towards the Welsh mountains on a clear day.
What to expect
The short climb from the car park is family-friendly but exposed. Bring a windproof layer, linger for sunset and link the viewpoint with the Rococo Garden or a longer Cotswold Way section.
Opening hours
Open access all year with no fixed hours. Visibility and ground conditions change quickly on the escarpment.
Reading the route
Painswick Beacon is most rewarding when you treat it as a small piece of the landscape rather than a race to a viewpoint. Notice the changes in surface, light and sound as the route moves between streets, field edges, woodland or open ground.
Planning notes
Check the route length, weather and ground conditions before setting out. Download directions, wear shoes with grip and leave time for a stop at a village pub, café or viewpoint along the way.
